My first spring engagement photography session is finally here! With the Calgary weather finally warmed up, the grass started growing in and turning green. We all know the Calgary weather is unpredictable, and can even get snow and freezing weather in April. Thankfully, with the hot weather (27 degrees!) during the first week of May, I think it’s safe to say no more snow. Lida and Steve are set to marry very soon, so I’m glad the weekend weather worked perfectly. Albeit a few dark storm clouds that made it’s way in, and rained on us! Thankfully, I carried a black umbrella with me so we wouldn’t get drenched. After ten, fifteen minutes of rain and everyone else scattering, that meant no one was around!

Steve and Lida asked if it’s ok to bring their dog Mocha, and I said of course! As a dog lover, I’m always happy if a client brings their fur baby along as part of their session. He is such an adorable little dog and even wore a little shirt that matched them!

Here are a few photos from their session that day. Soon their wedding will be coming up and I can’t wait to see their spin and all the hard work they put into their wedding.

A few weeks back, Andrew Phung and his lovely wife Tamara sent an email asking if I was available to document their second son’s newborn lifestyle session. It’s always an honor to see how much a family has grown, especially their first son who likes to chatter away and run around pretending he’s Batman! Andrew is part of a successful comedy sitcom made in Canada, Kim’s Convenience (link to see it!). If you haven’t watched the sitcom, it’s about a Korean-Canadian family with hilarious moments dealing with the cultural generation gap between the parents and the kids. Growing up with immigrant parents myself, I was mentally checking off, “Yep, that’s what my parents would say, my Dad would do etc.”

Baby Mateo was almost night and day compared to his big brother’s newborn session (link here). Took awhile to rock him to asleep before we could get those cute sleeping shots. About 20 minutes later, he was wide awake and wanted to be free of the wrap! Ah well, you work with the baby’s schedule but none the less, I got what I wanted and moved on with the rest of the session.

There were so many images and I had a hard time narrowing down which highlights to showcase. Congratulations to the Phung family on the newest addition to their family!

Two weeks ago I teamed up with some amazing Calgary wedding creatives to photograph a stylized wedding in the heart of downtown Calgary. Nikki from Posey Lane Weddings, created the look for the Winterberry theme and the color palette were mainly white with berry colors.  Needless to say, I was really excited to photograph this look.

Besides photography, I also created the stationery and calligraphy as well. Nikki was excited that I could create the artwork since I made some for her back in October for two other stylized weddings. The stationery was all hand done on handmade cotton paper in modern calligraphy that’s super trendy right now.

The indoor location at Divino’s, was perfect with the texture brick wall, lots of window light and hardwood floors. Our model Nicole, took directions really well and I took a ton of photos in the gorgeous lace dress with a luscious bouquet. Once the main model images were done, it was time for tablescape and close up detail shots. It was hard not to plop myself down and start wolfing down three cakes. That’s right, three cakes and all were decorated slightly differently with textures. Everything was set up really nicely, especially with the three hanging flower circles. I saw those kind of hanging flower circles in luxury bridal magazines and it’s really a piece of art when you see it up close.

Miss K was just 8 days fresh when she had her first photo session in my studio. She looked identical to her older sister when I photographed her 14 days new, almost 2.5 years ago. It’s amazing how big the older sister is now, and even her hair color has changed. When I photographed her older sister, she was wide awake 99% of the time, and she gave me a good run for my money to try and lull her to sleep. Miss K was very tired at the beginning, and we got some beautiful sleepy images. But soon Miss K, just like her older sister, woke up and gave me wide eyed looks the rest of the time.  Even though Miss K didn’t snooze through the entire three hours session, we got a variety of sleepy and wide eyed images.

Introducing Miss K to the world!
